What I really think about the writing space that twitter affords is...a textual space encouraging expression within a confined boundary. Twitter is more a textual space than a writing space because you can do more than just put words in your tweets. You can post pictures and link to almost anything you want. It also allows for small conversations to happen between any sort of person. People one might not see every day in day-to-day life you can tweet at and have a conversation with.
A tweet's purpose is for a short quip; a snippet of
information about what is happening in real life. A tweet is like one's internal commentary on a situation- twitter provides a space for everyone to comment and give their opinions on life in real time. This raises a few interesting questions: Is twitter a place of legitimacy? Does this place provide validation for people's thoughts and opinions? Do people use twitter as such?
Hey thanks for your thoughtful post! I really liked when you compared Twitter as a place for one's internal commentary. Although I think it has many different uses, I definitely agree that it is a place for internal commentary. I often find myself tweeting about random things I am thinking about. Also, to answer one of your questions, I think that many people tweet their thoughts and opinions, and hope that one or more of their followers will validate them by either replying to their tweet or retweeting it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this interesting post. I agree with your interpretation of twitter. I think that it is definitely used to encourage expression within a confined boundary and I think you put that very nicely. I also like when you said it is a place for one's internal commentary on a situation. The questions you raised also helped to reiterate the debate some may have over the purpose of twitter. However, my opinion on twitter very closely relates to yours!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your post! I happen to agree with much of what you say. Although I am sure we can say that all of the writing spaces we use have some form of limitation, Twitter is known precisely because of its 140 character limit. I also compared a tweet to a personal commentary, but with the added possibility of someone else responding and giving us feedback as well. Finally, you pose interesting questions regarding the validity of this site. Is it enough to express our thoughts through this platform? Or can Twitter be considered as just an initial step?
